Why blog?
A friend informed me that to blog means to keep a record of your inspirations, ideas and creations. Sounds good to me : )
I have been crafting for a few years now, slowly developing skills in different areas of craft. Inspiration for much of my craft comes from from my pixi & fariy like friends. My latest obsession has been making pixi styled clothing.
I love involving the element of magic in making stuff and love to make things that look like they're from another time or place.
I also have a huge leaf obsession. On a recent trip to Sth East Asia i am sure my partner got sick of hearing "check out THAT leaf!". I make leaf cushions, small couch sized ones, gum leaf shaped ones to snuggle up to and large floor ones. I have been making them for about 3 years. The first 2 were for decorations for a magical Australian festival called Akasha in 2006. As I was making them I was thinking 'more of these need to be in existance'. Most of the people that own them are my friends : )
In the last year I have made 3 leaf blankets. The first one was at the request of a friend to make a piece for her exhibition called 'Inner Child'. I had had the blanket in my head for a couple of weeks when i got asked to make a piece and the exhibition provided the push to create it. The piece was supposed to be 1m by 1m for the exhibition, I must have missed that part - oops. This leaf is approx 2m by 2m and was inspired by the philodendron plant that pushed against my old lounge room window back in North Fitzroy.
In the photo above there is some big water drop marks from the beautiful tree whose base it was lying against.
This quilt was given to 2 friends upon their sacred union and the arrival of their first child.
The second blanket was made very roughly from a recycled velour quilt. Don't have photos of that one. The third i just finised the bias binding on today. Dam silk bias is hard to use.
My friend James (Jamard) took some photos of the blanket with leaf cushions on it before it was properly finished.
I will take some photos of the finished blanket soon.
